This is a collection of samples of the aluminum "gift" gamelan built by Daniel Schmidt, Stephen Parris, Lyd Martín, and other graduate students at Mills College. They use the same Lou Harrison tuning that was used used for Si Betty, Si Darius, and Si Madeleine.
These samples were created to aid in composing and learning pieces for our new music ensemble, Gamelan Encinal, and for the gamelan students at Mills College.
The Kenong and Kempul ring too long. I recommend setting up kenong samples to have a decay of 560ms.
To mimic the sound of damping a key by hand, I recommend setting release to 30ms on all saron family instruments.
PAY WHAT YOU CAN! All proceeds will go to maintaining the existing instruments, and the operational costs of Gamelan Encinal.
If you have any questions about these samples, please contact me!
PLEASE CREDIT STEPHEN PARRIS, DR. PATRICK LIDDELL, and GAMELAN ENCINAL IF USED FOR ANY ACADEMIC OR COMMERCIAL USE!
